My D isn't feeling well?

we were camping in MA (yes, in the rain again?) and my door locks began acting up. every time I started it up and drove away, they'd start lociking and unlocking as I drove. I was able to get them to stop by using the key fob. that worked a few times, but then the locks stopped working altogether. the fob didn't work and neither did the the main switch on the door. none of the other door switches would work either. I actually had to go MANUAL? SHEESH! if that didn't put in a bad enough mood, now my radio has up and died. nothing, nada. I pulled the fuse when I got home and it was fine. I even swapped it out, still nothing. I pulled the fuse on the locks and it was also fine, but when I plugged it back in, the locks worked again. still no radio, but progress? until I ran out to get my plow for my new ATV. my D must be jelous of my new toy and it gave a "NO BUS" error and my dash went out. nothing worked but the D ran fine. I finished my errand and was careful not to shut it down since I didn't know if it'd start. I got home and put it away in the garage and tried to restart and it worked fine. no errors. I started it a few more times and all was normal once again, exept I still have no radio?

What now? any ideas on getting my radio back? should I worry about the NO BUS thing? maybe water got somewhere it wasn't supposed to? ?

The locks are a very common thing. One of the arm/disarm in the front door or hatch switches got wet. It may need to be replaced. The NO BUS item is going to be tough. There are a number of posts. You can search here and on dodgetalk. There are a lot of theories and very few follow up posts as to what it was. Everything from bad ground connects to the dash, bad PCM connections and bad PCMs.

just a follow-up?

This morning, I decided to take the D in to work. no interior lights. I checked the fuse and it was blown. I replaced it and it blew in a matter of a few seconds. before it blew, I got my radio back so the radio also needs the interior light fuse to be working. Odd?

next is removing the door panel and looking for the short. that's the last place I was playing around so that's the likliest spot.

oh, and when I lock my doors from the inside, I get a NO BUS code on the dash. it shoots a current to the lights and overloads the dash or something. I solve my short and I think my NO BUS thing disappears? maybe.

No Bus

Dwayne, I hope you find it man? sorry you're having problems. I'll do some digging today on my wiring diagrams and see where the common thread is on the locks and radio. But I must admit, I do better on paper than digging through dash harnesses. We're all there for ya dude.

I agree maybe the relays got wet as we had some pretty heavy rains!
I don't think it explains why the NO BUS though!
I hate intermittent Problems.

well, the wet relays might have caused the lights to short. I get the NO BUS when I hit the lock button. it seems to send power to the lights through a different circuit as they flashed on momentarily when I unlocked the doors while driving. that may have interrupted the computer and given the NO BUS code since the fuse was out and there should have been no lights. that's the only explanation I can come up with. I get it everytime the engine is running and I play with the door locks.

unfortunately, it'll be a few days before I start tearing it apart, unless the rain continues here for a few more days. Then I can't work outside so I'll have time to play with it.

Well, I finally got around to working on the issues? I tore the door panel off and looked at the relays we installed when I put the keyless entry on. They had signs of water issues. We installed them so the contacts were vertical. The water puddled on top and shorted the lights. I relocated them so the terminals face down and now should have no problems. New fuse and now I have interior lights and all works well again.

Case closed.
